Holocaust Memorial Day 27th January 2011

On the 27th January we all worked together to learn about Holocaust Memorial Day. The theme this year was 'Untold Stories' Share your thoughts on the day in the comments section below.

I learnt that the Nazis came to power with Germany in 1933. I learnt that U2 wrote a song all about the holocaust and it was really sad and told a story. And I learnt that if it wasn't for the people who fought for us that I wouldn't be here today. We did some role playas if we were back to when it happened. We created our last family photo and had to use our face and body language to show how we felt!! Georgia F.

Design Concepts - Look at Eyam Museum on PhotoPeach

Today we began working as a company to look at the Museum in Eyam, we are called Design Concepts and will share some of our work with you here.

this is Essa. First of all we had a board meeting and Mrs Hewitt said that a museum in Eyam wanted a tender to remodel it. We all ended up with different jobs; some people researched more about the museum, some worked out arrangments for the cafe and others (me and my friends) worked out a plan for the building.

I filmed an advert for the museum and when the Eyam museum manager came in to look at our tender he was very impressed with it. Also Mrs Hewitt said that there was a volunteer, who was in  her 80s, and she came too because she was worried about all the new tech we were proposing to put in. He left us in doubt, but then she disagreed with him and tried to defend us as much as she could now we are working even more to make our tender more to his liking.

There is a museum in Eyam because when there was the plauge a tailor bought a carpet from london and it had fleas. to stop the plauge spreading to another village they got the supplies of food dropped down a well and then they would go and pick it up. However most of the people in that village got the plague.

UNREST IN FRENCH SPEAKING TUNISIA

There is much unrest in Tunisia, a north African country that is a former French colony and the President has fled the country after many years of harsh leadership. Tunisia has been a popular tourist destination for Brits for a long time, although currently people are being advised to stay away, and holiday makers have been flown home. Check out the link for footage and more information.

Our new ALC

We have been working on a 'name' for the new ALC this morning. We did find this hard and it meant that we had to be really good reflective learners.
Have a look at this site about Old Barnsley

Have you got any others to share?
This is an Artist's impression of what the new school might look like.

We looked at the plans and then came up with our questions.

We have been really good reflective learners - we discarded several ideas and had to start again. We are now having an 'Apprentice' style lesson with Kane and Olivia each in charge of a group.

Kane is the Boss this morning!

Hi its Olivia I was the team leader and we worked as a team we all chose a name but we choose to keep it a secerate we all went round in a circle and said why we liked the name and after that we chose what jobs to do and we all got it finished. We are going to show all our things and tell each other our names and see which is best and have that name to put to all the other classes and choose the name out of which is the best.

We had our presentations this afternoon and there is a real split within the class as to which of the two names we should put forward.
