Plots and Protests

Hi its Rebecca and Morgan

This morning we had a letter from Mr Milburn saying we had to come to school on saturdays for three whole hours. We did a sweep round the circle and we decided we wanted to protest.
We all split up into different groups (which we could choose) and did different activities such as: performing, banners poster and writing letters. Here is a copy of the letter that Mr Milburn sent!

MEMO : From Mr Milburn

FAO  - All Year 7 Pupils

Following government guidelines which are based on the research findings of the Foster Committee, Kingstone has now decided to adopt the 6D policy. It is important that we address this issue now before moving to the ALC in 2012.
All homework is to be abolished as it has been proved that it is an inefficient method of learning. To combat this, pupils will be expected to attend school on Saturday mornings from 8.30 – 11.30.  New timetables will be issued and this will be phased in during the final term of this year. It is expected that trials with year 7 will be successful and this can then be expanded to other year groups.
Parents will be informed of this following the next governors meeting.
Any enquiries will be dealt with via the school office in the first instance.

M.Milburn

Madam later on told us that this was not real  and said it was to get us thinking!

Most of us thought it was real at first so me and Morgan wrote a letter to Mr Milburn and here it is!

                                                           The big banner

Dear Mr Milburn

7r are very unhappy about having to come to school on a Saturday so I am writing this letter to tell you why!

My first point is that some people may have activities on a Saturday Such as: dancing, drama, horse riding and ice skating. Morgan Scully said ‘I could not come to school on Saturday as I have to look after the horses 10 till 4.30 and it will be hard for someone to do it for me.
Amie Courtney and Megan’s argued ‘we do world wide dancing championships and leave on a Friday and we come back on a Sunday and no one could replace us!
Olivia said ‘I do ice skating lessons on a Saturday because I am training to do a competition and if I win I might meet a professional skater’!

Furthermore some mum and dads might have split up so their children might go and see there dad or mum and if they only go on a Saturday they would not be able to see their most important people in their life! Georgia said  ‘ I only see my dad once through the week and if I had school on a Saturday I would only see him for a couple of hours and he is one of the most in portent people in my life as well as my mum’!
Kate argued ‘I only get to see my dad on a Saturday once a fortnight’.
Jacob said ‘I only see my dad once a month on a Saturday and if I came to school I would only see him for 4 hours’!

Finally if teachers gave us homework and it was done properly we could do it at home instead of coming to school and having to get up early!
I think that though we are only 11-12 we still need a lie in!

I hope you think about all the ideas I have put forward and rethink about having school on a Saturday!

                                           Yours sincerely R.yeardley and 7R

Here are some photos and videos of us working on our protest!

Here is Essa's response

We have made this video to tell what might happen if there was a school on Saturday. We did some dancing because it is important to Courtney,Megan and Amie and if they go to school on Saturday they may not be able to go to their festivals. Because Kingstone will be the only school working on a Saturday they might get bullied . However they will get a better education than other schools .

Thankyou by Georgia Fenton, Megan Lunn, Olivia Appleby, Courtney Foster, Amie Robinson and Georgia Egan. :)

Our Joey

Hi its Bradley here I'm just saying about on Tuesday our form and others was practising for a play and a dance about the mining disaster at the Huskar (Silkstone) and 26 children died that day and we were  paying our respect and I was dad, Lewis was Joey B and Liam was George (Joeys old older brother) they both died that day. They were devastated all their freinds and neighbours miss him they died from the floods from a freak thunder storm.
